In 1887 the Railway Clearing House (RCH) issued its first set of specifications, which although not mandatory, did set down certain dimensional and other requirements in the construction of private owner wagons.

It is a wagon built to these specifications that our model of the Gloucester Railway Coach and Wagon Company 6 plank open wagon, side and end door, represents.

In December 1890 the Princess Royal Colliery Co Ltd was incorporated with a capital of £10,000 in £;10 shares.

This company included the Princess Royal Flour Mill colliery and the Prince of Wales Colliery. Work had already begun on new sidings at Park Gutter and by 1890 work was well in hand.

Our 7mm ('O'Gauge) wagon is based on one built in 1893, its Number 62, was the first in a batch of 50 numbered 62 - 111. In 1897 sidings at Oakwood branch were increased to take an extra ( estimated ) 300 - 500 Tons of coal a day. By 1908 its sidings near the Park Gutter pit had been increased to house 96 wagons.

The livery was red body and solebars, with black ironwork including buffer bodies and the strapping on the solebar.
